What about watermarking?

Always watermark your work.

Even with anti copy protection systems in place determined thieves will always find a way to copy photos, as an added barrier we highly recommend watermarking your work.

A good watermark should be visible but not detract attention from your photographic masterpiece.

Here is an example of how we watermark at photosense london:

We use a combination of a large watermark right across the image and a small one.

The following steps are for photoshop users but they can be applied to other image editing packages.

  •  Place large watermark in desired position (we choose centre)
  •  Navigate to the layers panel and ensure the watermark layer is highlighted, from the drop down menu select the soft light blending mode.
  •  Once blended set the opacity slider to between 5 and 10%, this ensure the watermark is still visible but not detracting attention from your image.

To finish off:

Add a smaller but more visible watermark on the bottom right corner to compliment the larger but less visible watermark. Getty images use a similar watermark system.

 See the photosense image example.
