This exhibition is a celebration of Krieger's life work. He has worked in fashion, which left him disillusioned, and has photographed the rich and famous. His work spans almost 40 years and has seen some notable changes in technique, style and form. This collection signifies transitions in his relationship to his subjects, with his new works representing a removal of physical distance.
Krieger's latest work is a collection of exquisite and intimate nudes, represented on canvas and adorned with wire and paint to enhance the dark intimacy of his images. Yet there doesn't appear to be a sense of surrealism or abstraction in his work, just an honesty with his subjects. You can feel the lens almost touch the model, so that every follicle is laid bare for the camera. This brings the viewer within reach of a very human subject, removing the feeling of being a voyeur and replacing it with an affinity that seems at times both tragic and warm. Krieger's photographs are no longer two dimensional, but have texture and an ornate quality that steps out of the image.
This exhibition will be of interest to photographers looking for an extra dimension to portraiture and those that like art nudes. But it will also be of interest to anyone that has the soul of an artisan and wishes to draw parallels between that and their photography.
