Hi,
I bring you good news, read your post about the canon and nikon dilemma and posted a question on twitter. Greg Wallis promptly twitted back the following:
Neither. Wait for the release of the new and very special 550D. Seriously.
Had a quick look and the canon does look rather good and at a great price to boot.
The only thing I would say before you go ahead and purchase your new camera is, do you know the style of photography you are going to do? I can see video being a huge advantage for photo journalism but if you don't do much of that then maybe you need to ask yourself what you are gonna use the video function for?
On the D90 front as a stills camera its great especially in low light situations, the video function leaves allot to be desired in my view.
Major issues from are the fact that its not possible to plug in an external mic (big deal)
You get a strange jelly like effect when you pan quickly and the video looks pixelated on a TV screen. Also you can only shoot 5 minutes at a time in HD mode, i think 20 in standard def. Some will say not too much of an issue but it can be. A lesser issue is no auto focus in movie mode.
I've tried the Canon 7D and i have to say its great for both stills and HD video, you get the full fat 1080p treatment, you only get 720P on the Nikon but then again the nikon is almost half the price.
Allot to think about
